Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is the target of threats from Iran, according to prominent Twitter accounts that have been spreading hate speech about him.

While serving in the Trump administration and later, Pompeo, who is now a contributor to Fox News, has been extremely critical of Iran. He was in charge when American soldiers assassinated Qassem Soleimani, the daughter of whom is now posing a danger to the former secretary of state.

“On Saudi TV, Pompeo complains about Iran. Zainab Soleimani tweeted on Friday, “Home of 9/11 plotters. Live in dread, liar.” The post featured a picture of Pompeo in a cage.

Two days later, a Twitter account linked to the Iranian government retweeted Soleimani’s post in Arabic. In that post, Zainab Soleimani was identified and referred to be the “martyr’s” daughter. In the post, Pompeo was depicted with flames pouring from underneath and crosshairs on his head.

Pompeo’s close associate acknowledged the danger.

Not just Pompeo is Iran after a former American official. According to a State Department report to Congress that the Washington Free Beacon saw and reported on, Iran is also posing a “serious and credible” threat to Iran’s envoy to the Trump administration, Brian Hook.

Attacks on the lives of current or former American officials would result in “grave consequences,” according to the State Department.
