The coastguard informed news agency AFP that Greek port police replied to a distress call; by deploying three boats and a tug boat to assist the stranded vessel; which had arrived from Turkey.

The Greek coastguard reported more than 100 migrants were rescued early Sunday off the coast of Mykonos in the Aegean Sea; with four still missing.

The coastguard told AFP that port police responded to a distress call by dispatching three boats; and a tug boat to assist the stranded vessel, which had arrived from Turkey.

According to the report, 108 individuals were rescued and four were still missing.

It said that the overall number of people on board is unknown; due to conflicting reports from those who were rescued.

Notis Mitarachi, the Minister of Migration, had previously tweeted that eight migrants had gone missing and 104 had been rescued.

He also urged Turkey to improve its efforts to protect human lives and dismantle smuggling networks.

In the highest attempted incursion this year, Greek police reported they stopped nearly 600 migrants from crossing the Aegean Sea; into their territorial waters from Turkey in a single day.
