Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas urged US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday that the US side must put its words about the Mideast crisis into action, according to the Palestinian news agency (WAFA).

“The U.S. has to turn its words into deeds instead of adopting the policy of silence and condemnation for the unilateral Israeli measures because the situation on the ground is no longer acceptable at all,” Abbas told Blinken over the phone.

The WAFA cited Abbas as stating, “The current situation cannot be tolerated amid the absence of a political horizon and an international protection of our people.”

According to WAFA, Abbas requested that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) be removed from the US list of terrorist groups, that the PLO office in Washington be reopened, and that the US embassy in East Jerusalem be reopened.

“The current US administration is committed to the two-state solution, stopping settlement development, and preventing the expulsion of Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem,” Blinken said to Abbas.

“The U.S. is committed to reopening its consulate in Jerusalem,” Blinken said, adding that a high-level group from Washington will go to the area to prepare for US President Joe Biden’s impending visit at the end of June.

According to Blinken, Washington is eager to investigate the assassination of Al-Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in order to pursue and hold the perpetrators responsible.
