Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian woman in the southern West Bank after she approached a soldier with a knife, according to the army, with Palestinian officials declaring her dead.

According to an army statement, the “attempted stabbing” occurred at Al Aroub camp, north of Hebron.

“An assailant armed with a knife advanced toward an IDF soldier who was conducting routine security activity on Route 60. The soldiers responded with live fire,” according to the army.

“No IDF injuries were reported.”

According to the Palestinian health ministry, Ghofran Warasnah was killed by a gunshot to the torso.

Her age was given as 31 by the Palestinian news outlet Wafa.

As per the Palestinian Prisoners Club, she was a journalist who had earlier been imprisoned by Israel.

Since late March, nineteen people, largely Israeli civilians, have been slain in attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs, including 18 inside Israel and a West Bank Jewish settler.

Israeli security forces have retaliated with raids both inside Israel and in the West Bank, particularly in Jenin, a hotspot in the north.

Three Israeli Arab assailants were killed, as well as a police commando.

In the West Bank, 36 Palestinians have been murdered, including suspected militants as well as citizens, including a journalist covering a raid in Jenin and onlookers.
