At the Queen’s Jubilee thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were forced to sit far away from senior royal family members, and royal experts have chimed in on why this was necessary.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seated on the other side of the aisle from other members of the royal family, such as Prince Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton.

During the Jubilee weekend, the Cambridges and Sussexes did not interact with each other at all.

On Palace Confidential, The Daily Mail diary editor Richard Eden stated that the seating may have been meticulously planned, with Princess Beatrice and Eugenie also being requested to prevent the Sussexes from being photographed.

“There was a procession to depart the cathedral, which meant Harry and Meghan were considerably behind,” Eden explained. They had to wait for the rest of their row to go first so they wouldn’t be taken; they weren’t in the same pictures as Prince Charles or the Cambridges.”

Victoria Murphy, a royal correspondent, agreed with him, adding that the seating arrangement had to be planned ahead of time.

“If not the distance between the brothers – that physical barrier between them in that seating layout,” she added, “it’s impossible not to look at it as a sign.”
