If she stays on the throne for two more years, Queen Elizabeth II would surpass Louis XIV of France as the world’s longest monarch.
After surpassing Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej on Sunday, the 96-year-old became the world’s second-longest reigning monarch.
In September 2015, Elizabeth II surpassed her great-great grandmother Queen Victoria as the longest-serving British monarch.
She is second only to Louis XIV of France, who reigned for 72 years and 110 days from 1643 to 1715, making him the world’s longest-reigning monarch.
Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who reigned for 70 years and 126 days between 1946 and 2016, has been dethroned by the Queen.
