According to local officials, a Katyusha rocket struck near a gas plant owned by the Emiratis in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish area. The attack, which was the third of its kind in the previous 72 hours, did not cause any damage or injuries.
According to Sediq Mohammed, an official from the neighbouring Qadr Qaram area, the rocket that was shot on Saturday was aimed towards the Khor Mor gas complex, which is operated by the energy corporation Dana Gas and is located in the United Arab Emirates.
He estimated that the rocket landed approximately 500 metres away from the complex. There was no prompt claim of responsibility for the incident.
The Counter-Terrorism Group, which is a security agency in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq, issued a statement saying that the Khor Mor gas field, which is located between the cities of Kirkuk and Sulaimaniyah, had been attacked by a total of six rockets. The statement was made public.
Katyusha rocket fire was directed at the same building on Wednesday and Friday, however neither attack resulted in any casualties nor caused any damage.
In the past few weeks, there have been multiple attacks against energy infrastructure located in other parts of the semi-autonomous Kurdish territory.
A rocket strike in May caused relatively little damage to the Kawergosk refinery, which is located northwest of Erbil, the capital of the regional government.
In April, three rockets landed in close proximity to the same plant, which was one of the largest in the region, although there were no reports of injuries or damage.
