Iran: dad murders his teenage daughter
Iranian local media said on Friday that a teenage girl was shot; in the heart with a shotgun by her father, who then killed her. Women’s activists claimed that the father confronted his 16-year-old daughter; after she had met a young guy in the southern city of Nurabad; resulting in the death, which was apparently; a so-called “honour killing” in the nation.
After a disagreement with her father; the child rushed to her grandmother’s home where she was challenged.
According to the father, who was quoted on the Rokna news website; “I didn’t actually plan to murder my kid; I shot accidently.” I merely went there with a shotgun to frighten her.
The 43-year-old father was detained; and “admitted to his crime,” Rokna continued.
If a parent kills his child, there is no death punishment in Iran. There are no exact statistics on honour killings in Iran; but the ISNA news agency estimates there are “between 375 and 450 cases; of honour killings” a year.
According to ISNA, these murders make up about a fifth of all homicides; in the Islamic republic.
