President Joe Biden called Rep. Liz Cheney, R-WY, following her overwhelming defeat in Tuesday’s Republican primary, According to a report.

On Tuesday, Trump-backed challenger Harriet Hageman defeated Cheney by 37 points in a long-anticipated but still shocking defeat. The details of their conversation are unknown, but Biden called her on Wednesday.

Cheney has been widely speculated to run for president in the aftermath of her defeat, though she has yet to make an announcement.

Republican strategists believe former President Donald Trump’s embattled opponent would have little chance in a GOP presidential primary.

Since leaving office, Cheney has been the most vocal Republican critic of Trump. On January 6th, she used her position on the House Select Committee to blast Trump for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

During her concession speech, Cheney compared her situation to that of President Abraham Lincoln, noting that he lost Senate and House races before being elected president.

She went on to say that if she had simply bought into Trump’s attacks on the 2020 election, she could have won the primary.

“That is a path I could not and would not take,’ Cheney said. ‘This is not a game. Every one of us must be committed to the eternal defense of this miraculous experiment called America.”
