The electoral authority has stated that the results of Kenya’s much anticipated presidential election will be available shortly.

The national tallying centre in Nairobi, the nation’s capital, is getting ready for the declaration.

According to the most recent results, Deputy President William Ruto has a slim advantage against former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

A final announcement of the results will be made at 1500 local time (1200 GMT).

In party colours and in a festive mood, supporters of both Mr. Odinga and Mr. Ruto have congregated at various locations across the nation to await the announcement.

As Kenyans wait for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to announce which of them will become the nation’s fifth president, both candidates have pleaded for patience.

The Catholic Church, which pleaded for “patience and civility” and urged the leading candidates to exhibit “restraint and statesmanship,” has also made calls for peace.

According to local media, Mr. Ruto is ahead of Mr. Odinga in the official results with 51% to 48% respectively. 39 of the 290 constituencies still have unannounced verified results to be released.

Additionally, media outlets have been reporting preliminary results based on official information from the 46,000 voting places. They also depict a close race. A total of 14 million ballots were cast, or 65% of the electorate.

Officials from the IEBC have completed counting the votes at the Bomas Cultural Center, the primary tallying location.

The procedure entailed verifying that the physical forms brought to the centre and the pictures of the result forms from the voting places match.

Wafula Chebukati, the head of the electoral authority, accused agents from the major parties present during the process of turning it into a “forensic” exercise after a meticulous effort.
