Man arrested upon approaching Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin
A man was detained after approaching Queen Elizabeth’s coffin from the line of mourners in Westminster Hall.
According to Metropolitan Police, he was arrested and taken into custody under the Public Order Act.
The incident in Parliament occurred around 22:00 BST on Friday night, according to a statement from the force.
During the incident, the live video feed of the Queen lying in state was interrupted for a brief moment.
“Around 22:00 on Friday 16 September officers from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command detained a man in Westminster Hall following a disturbance,” Scotland Yard said in a statement.
“We’re aware of an incident in Westminster Hall in which a member of the public moved out of the queue and towards the catafalque,” a Parliament spokesperson said.
“They have now been removed from the hall and the queue restarted with minimal disruption.”
Earlier in the evening, the King was joined in the hall by siblings Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward for a vigil.
The late Queen Elizabeth II will be laid to rest in Westminster Hall until her funeral on Monday.
