Four detained after NI cops murder attempted in Strabane
Four suspects have been taken into custody as a result of the investigation into the attempted murder of two police officers in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
Thursday was the day that a bomb went off at the side of the vehicle that the officers were driving in Strabane while they were on patrol.
The explosion that took place in the Mount Carmel Heights neighbourhood just before 23:00 GMT had no effect on either of the officers who were there at the time.
On Friday, law enforcement officials took into custody three males, two of whom were 36 years old, and one who was 28.
In addition to that, they looked in a variety of places.
On Saturday, a fourth suspect, a man in his thirties, was taken into custody.
Earlier, detectives stated that a strong line of inquiry was that the New IRA, which is a dissident republican group, was behind the attack.
Earlier on Friday, PSNI Assistant Chief Constable Bobby Singleton stated that the incident triggered a major security alert in the surrounding area.
More than a thousand local residents were impacted, and it prevented some children from going to school.
During follow-up investigations, the police have reported discovering what may be a command wire for the improvised explosive device that was found earlier.
Mr. Singleton stated that the officers, who had been conducting routine patrols in the area due to ongoing antisocial behaviour in the area, were left “shaken” when they saw a flash and heard a loud bang. The officers had been monitoring the ongoing antisocial behaviour in the area.
