Suspected Congolese soldier killed after ambush, says Rwanda
A guy who is believed to have been a member of the army of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been killed after crossing the border into Rwanda and opening fire, according to the Rwandan military.
As a result of allegations that Rwanda has been providing support to the M23 rebel organization, relations between the two nations have become exceedingly tense.
On Friday, President Paul Kagame of Rwanda stated that he will use his influence to try to convince the rebels to stop fighting and evacuate from the territories that they have lately occupied.
The Rwandan military stated that the individual who was killed by gunfire was a soldier of unknown identity.
According to the report, he was considered to be a member of the Congolese armed forces and was firing at Rwandan military positions close to the border. The authorities in Congo have not yet commented on the situation.
It is not the first time that an incident of this nature has taken place, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo has on numerous occasions reported seeing Rwandan soldiers on its side of the border.
Rwanda is accused of supporting the M23 rebel organization and attempting to exploit DR Congo’s mineral resources, all of which allegations are denied by the Rwandan government.
The regional presidents and ministers are scheduled to join together on Monday in what will be the most recent attempt to convince the rebels to pull back and put an end to the escalation of the violence.
