After getting hurt in a crowd crush during a concert at the Brixton O2 Academy that also injured several other individuals, three persons are still in critical condition.

The concert, by Afro-pop singer Asake, had to be abandoned part-way through. A “large number of people” tried to force their way inside, the Met Police said.

Social media footage shows people screaming, shouting and struggling.

One of the crush victims said: “I couldn’t breathe and I completely passed out. I thought I was dead.”

The woman, who was taken to hospital from the venue on Thursday night with suspected internal bleeding, said: “I took my last breath and I could not get any more oxygen. I was so scared.”

Social media videos depict a gathering that stretches from the street outside to the venue’s doors.

Over 4,000 people, according to the Met Police, attended.

Cdr Colin Wingrove said officers were summoned by venue personnel at at 21:30 GMT, “after concerns that a significant number of people were attempting to force admission,” in a statement made outside Brixton police station on Friday.

He added: “Some officers provided first aid and CPR to members of the public in order to save life.”

One individual has been detained on suspicion of assaulting a police officer, and according to Cdr. Wingrove, the force’s directorate of professional standards is looking into an incident in which an officer was “allegedly seen to push a member of the public.”

Reviewing the video from the officers’ on-scene cameras is also part of the process.
