Blackpool murder arrest after Boxing Day death

• The body of a woman in her 70s was discovered in Blackpool on Boxing Day.

After the body of a woman in her 70s was discovered in Blackpool, a man has been detained on suspicion of having committed the woman’s murder.

On Boxing Day at 19:00 GMT, her body was discovered at a residence in the Severn Road neighborhood that is close to the Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Officers from the Lancashire Police force were dispatched “after concerns a woman was unresponsive,” according to the force’s statement. A man who is 47 years old and hails from Manchester is still being held by the police.

The police have issued a call for any witnesses or anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV evidence.

According to Detective Superintendent Neil Drummond, the probe is “very much ongoing.”

“First and foremost my thoughts are with the loved ones of the deceased at this difficult time,” he said.

“We have launched a murder investigation to establish the full circumstances of how she died. ”
