According to India’s foreign minister, the nation has increased troop deployment along a contentious border with China to an unprecedented level.

India wouldn’t permit China to “unilaterally change” the current situation at the border, S. Jaishankar continued.

His remarks come days after Indian and Chinese forces engaged in combat in a contentious border region in the state of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to India, Chinese troops’ “encroachment” caused the confrontation to start.

According to their information, the border situation was “basically steady,” and the two sides were still in communication about it, according to the foreign ministry of China.

The Line of Actual Control, also known as LAC, is a disputed 3,440km (2,100 mile) long de facto boundary that connects China and India. Both sides’ soldiers frequently come into contact with one another, and tensions can sometimes rise to the point of skirmishes or clashes.

Since a bloody altercation in June 2020 in the Galwan Valley of the Ladakh area, far farther to the west, in which 20 Indian soldiers and at least four Chinese soldiers perished, both sides have been attempting to deescalate the situation.
On December 9, there was the most recent flare-up, the first in more than a year, which left a few soldiers with minor wounds. The Indian army claimed that both parties left the region right away.

On Monday, Mr. Jaishankar spoke at an event sponsored by the media outlet India Today and answered questions regarding the incident.

“In contrast to us, the Indian Army is currently stationed near China’s border. To combat Chinese aggression, this is done. Currently, the Indian Army is stationed to thwart any attempts to unilaterally alter LAC “said he.

China has not yet responded to the remarks.

Last week, the most recent encounter caused political commotion in India, with opposition parties leaving the legislature after their demand for an immediate debate of the border situation was turned down.

Rahul Gandhi, the head of India’s largest opposition party, the Congress, has accused the administration of disregarding China’s threat and claimed that Chinese forces were “thrashing” Indian soldiers at the border.

In his Monday speech to the House of Representatives, Mr. Jaishankar claimed that Mr. Gandhi’s remarks “disrespected” Indian soldiers and refuted claims that the administration was unconcerned with the situation.

“Who dispatched the Indian Army to the border if we had no care for China? Why do we currently put pressure on China for de-escalation and disengagement if we were indifferent to China? “asked he.
