Norfolk firefighter Carl Mills dies at his workplace

• Carl Mills, 58, passed away at his Norfolk fire station on Boxing Day.
• The married father of two had been a firefighter for 38 years.
• Norfolk Fire and Rescue commended bystanders and emergency workers.

A devoted and well-liked firefighter Carl Mills who had worked for 38 years passed away on a Boxing day at his fire station.

Carl Mills, 58, who had entered the fire station in 1984, had been a watch manager at Wroxham, close to Norwich, for number of years.

Mills, died at the station on Monday morning leaving behind a wife and two children.

Mr. Mills was “liked by everybody who knew him,” the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement thanking the bystanders and emergency personnel who assisted him.

A brigade official further stated that over his tenure, the man had attended hundreds of emergencies, including involving fires, water rescues, and traffic accidents.

As a full-time firefighter for the RAF Mildenhall fire department he enjoyed helping the Norfolkian community as a whole.

“The sympathies of everyone in the fire service are with Carl’s family, friends, and colleagues at this extremely sad time,” said Ceri Sumner, head of Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

Flags at fire stations all throughout Norfolk have been lowered as a sign of respect.
