A 45-year-old Irish traveler perished after falling off a speeding train on Tuesday in Thailand, according to Thai authorities.

According to Sai Yok district Pol. Maj. Kiatisak Kerdchok, Patrick Ward fell off the train in Kanchanburi province, west of the capital Bangkok, as it passed a beautiful scene at a slow speed.

As Ward moved between carriages, Kiatisak speculated that he might have fallen. He said he couldn’t tell if Ward was photographing the scene or just taking in the vista.

Medical personnel sprang into action to aid Ward after the incident was swiftly reported to the police, but they were unable to revive him, according to Kiatisak.

Ward boarded the train at the River Kwai station in the province of Kanchanaburi, which is well-known for its natural wonders and is home to the Krasae Caves, which are near to the scene of the tragedy.

The history of the railway, made famous by the 1957 World War II movie, The Bridge on the River Kwai, is another factor that draws in a lot of tourists. Thailand and neighboring Myanmar were originally connected by a railway that was constructed by prisoners of war.
