Officials say that 34 people died across the US, with the city of Buffalo in New York state being the hardest hit.

When a bus flipped over on an icy road near the town of Merritt in the western province of British Columbia, it killed four people.

The size of the winter storm has never been seen before. It has reached as far south as the Rio Grande from Canada.

Forecasters say the storm will calm down in the next few days, but people should still stay home if they don’t have to.

The storm has been wreaking havoc for days, but after a few blackouts, the power has been slowly coming back on.

The Associated Press says that as of Sunday afternoon EDT, less than 200,000 people were still without power, down from a peak of 1.7 million.

Many people won’t be able to spend Christmas with their families because thousands of flights have been cancelled.

On Sunday, wind chill alerts were still in place for more than 55 million people in the U.S.

The “bomb cyclone” winter storm, which happens when the pressure in the air drops and causes heavy snow and strong winds, has made it hard to get around the US.

Kathy Hochul, who grew up in Buffalo and is now the governor of New York State, said, “This will go down in history as Buffalo’s worst storm.”

“It’s like going to a war zone, and the cars on the sides of the roads are shocking,” she told reporters on Sunday night.

She said that people in the area should stay inside because there was still a “very dangerous and life-threatening situation” for them.

Some of the people who died in Erie County were found dead in their cars or in snow banks.

Vermont, Ohio, Missouri, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Colorado also had storm-related deaths. The weather in South Florida got so cold that iguanas froze and fell out of trees.

The cold is worst in Montana, which is in the west of the United States. Temperatures there have dropped to -50F. (-45C).

In Canada, Ontario and Quebec are taking the most damage from the storm.

On Sunday, electricity was out for almost 120,000 people in Quebec. Officials say that some homes may not be able to get power back for days.
