Blogger who took poisonous substance died in Stockport

• An inquest jury found there were “serious inconsistencies” in her care plan for suicide.

A jury has concluded that the psychiatric hospital responsible for the care of a mental health blogger who killed herself by ingesting poison was negligent.

In March of last year, Beth Matthews, 26, died shortly after ingesting the chemical she had ordered online and claimed to be protein powder.

She was receiving care at Stockport’s Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal.

She committed suicide, according to an inquest panel, with some negligence.

Ms. Matthews, a native of Cornwall, was reportedly receiving treatment for a personality condition.

She had a history of making repeated suicide attempts and was a difficult patient who was thought to be at high risk of suicide.

The jury found that while under the care of the Priory “it was evident there were serious inconsistencies across all levels of her care plan”.
