Panaji: An Azur Air Moscow-Goa flight was diverted to Uzbekistan on Saturday after receiving a bomb threat via email, the Russian airline’s second such incident this month, officials here confirmed.

S.V.T. Dhanamjaya Rao, director of the Dabolim Airport in South Goa, said the flight was scheduled to land at 4.38 a.m. in the coastal state.

“We received an email about the bomb threat, and we quickly contacted the airlines,” Rao said.

“The plane was diverted to Uzbekistan and landed there,” Rao explained.

According to airport sources, local police were also notified of the bomb threat mail. Azur Air, a Russian charter airline that serves destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central America, had 238 passengers on board, including two infants and seven crew members.

According to airport sources, the flight departed from Perm international airport, which is located at Bolshoye Savino, 16 kilometers southwest of Perm, Russia.

Police officers were deployed at the airport immediately after the news circulated.

This comes nearly two weeks after a Moscow-to-Goa flight made an emergency landing at Gujarat’s Jamnagar airport following a bomb threat.

The Moscow-Goa Azur Air flight ZF2401 also received a bomb threat on January 9 and made an emergency landing at the Jamnagar airport in Gujarat.

The plane landed in Goa the next day after a thorough inspection.
