Even though they were a big underdog at the half of their game against the Chargers on Saturday, the Jaguars will advance to the divisional round of the playoffs.

The Jaguars came back from a 27-0 first-half deficit to win 31-30 on the game’s final play thanks to a game-winning 36-yard field goal by Riley Patterson. The comeback is the third-largest in postseason history.

Doug Pederson, the head coach of the Jaguars, used a clever play to set up the winning kick. On a fourth-and-one, the Jaguars lined up with three rushing backs, and they passed the ball to Travis Etienne to the right of the line. To establish the scene, Etienne turned and ran 25 yards.

The Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence tossed four interceptions prior to the comeback, but the top choice in the 2021 draught shown resiliency. He completed touchdown passes on four consecutive drives, and the Jaguars defence put more pressure on the Chargers to bring the game back into reach.

the Chargers’ kicker To aid the comeback attempt, Cameron Dicker missed a 40-yard field goal, and the Jaguars took full advantage.
Lawrence completed 28 of 47 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns, with four different receivers catching the ball. Christian Kirk and Zay Jones both had eight catches during the game, and Etienne had 20 carries for 109 yards.

After the fourth of those scores, Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa slammed his helmet to the ground while pleading for a foul on Jaguars tackle Jawaan Taylor, and was consequently flagged for unsportsmanlike behaviour. This gave the Jaguars the opportunity to go for two and put themselves in a position to win with a field goal.

The Chargers will be left to pick up the pieces after a disastrous collapse, while the Jaguars will move on to play another game. After blowing a 27-point lead on Saturday, head coach Brandon Staley’s employment might be in jeopardy because of his track record in tight games.

At halftime, it didn’t seem like either of those two trajectories was in play, but the Jaguars didn’t give up.
