Police kill knife-wielding man at Paris train station
PARIS - French police shot dead a man who lunged at them...
Paris: Six people wounded in knife attack
A knife attack occurred early on Wednesday at Paris’s international Gare du Nord station, leaving six people hurt, including one who is critically ill.
The individual was stopped, according to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin, by two police officers who were not on duty but were heading home after a shift.
He claimed that the alleged assailant had been shot three times and was brought to the hospital with critical wounds.
Authorities are attempting to determine whether the attack had a purpose.
The assault began at 06:42 (05:42 GMT); within a minute, all six victims had injuries, and the attacker had been subdued.
Police were hailed by Mr. Darmanin for their “brave and effective” action, which he said saved numerous lives.
Police have not released the man’s name; he was not carrying any identification documents when he was transported to the hospital.
According to Mr. Darmanin, criminal detectives are now in charge of the case rather than anti-terror police.
Police cordoned off the station and erected thick white curtains around the attack area, which led to significant delays for trains at the station during the morning rush.
With around 700,000 passengers passing through each day, Paris Gare du Nord is one of the busiest international train terminals in Europe.
