Russian missile strike on apartment in Dnipro kills 40 people

Ukrainian officials said that the death toll from a Russian missile strike on an apartment building in Dnipro had increased to 40.

According to the most recent death toll, three of the victims were children. Another 75 people were hurt during the incident, and 46 people are still unaccounted for, according to Ukrainian emergency services.

39 individuals, including 14 children, have so far been saved, according to the officials.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously said that “dozens” of people, including a 3-year-old girl, were rescued from the building even though most of the floors were “smashed” in the strike.

The president claims that during the strikes on Saturday, 72 apartments were destroyed and more than 230 units were damaged.

The Kh-22 Russian missile, which also struck a major shopping mall in central Ukraine last summer, was fired at an apartment building in Dnipro, according to the Ukrainian Air Force.

Yurii Ihnat, spokesman for the Ukrainian air force, said the Kh-22 “was fired from a Tu-22M3 long-range bomber, launched from the area near Kursk and the Sea of Azov.”

“There were a total of five launches of these missiles,” Ihnat said.

The Kh-22 is a more traditional cruise missile that is less precise than the majority of more recent missiles.

At least 75 individuals were hurt in the attack on Saturday, according to Natalia Babachenko, Reznichenko’s advisor, and 30 of them are still hospitalised, 12 of whom are in bad condition, including a 9-year-old kid.

Moscow claimed on Monday that the damage in Dnipro was brought on by air defence and counter-missiles.

According to Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, the Russian Armed Forces only attack “military targets, whether they are evident or concealed,” not residential structures.
