Spain church stabbing incident leaves at least one dead, several injured
The Interior Ministry announced on Wednesday that a suspect had been detained in connection with the stabbing of many people at a church in southern Spain, where at least one person died.
The man, who some media outlets claimed was brandishing either a machete or a samurai sword, is accused of attacking worshippers in the San Lorenzo parish of the coastal city of Algeciras in the southern province of Cadiz.
The ministry issued a statement saying, “The facts are being investigated and analyzed, but it is not yet possible to determine the nature of the attack.”
A police representative declined to offer any additional information.
The parish priest was among those hurt, and initial reports from the local media indicate that he is in critical condition.
According to a local newspaper, the incident left four individuals hurt.
