Teen detained on suspicion of murder in Northumberland

• A 15-year-old girl has died after being stabbed in Hexham, Northumberland.
• A second boy, 16, has been detained on suspicion of murder.
• Police believe that the three kids knew each other and are trying to establish a link between them.

A boy detained on suspicion of murder in Northumberland after 15-year-old girl has died after being stabbed in Northumberland.

At around 17:10 GMT on Friday, she was fatally injured in the Priestpopple neighbourhood of Hexham.

She was rushed to the hospital with a 16-year-old guy, where the girl later passed away. It is not believed that the boy’s injuries are life-threatening.

According to Northumbria Police, a second 16-year-old boy was detained on suspicion of murder after first being detained on suspicion of assault. He is still being held.

The police claimed that they thought the three kids knew one another.

Ch Supt Sam Rennison described the girl’s death as a “tragedy” and said her family was “devastated beyond words”.

Officers with specialized training are providing assistance to both families.

“Our thoughts are very much with their loved ones at this awful time, and we are supporting them in every way we can,” Ch Supt Rennison said.

“We are determined to find out exactly what happened. A full investigation is ongoing into the circumstances.”

Officers are still present to complete their investigations and reassure the locals, she added.
