Constance Marten, a missing aristocrat, and her partner Mark Gordon have been arrested after being discovered in Brighton during a search for their baby.

Police are now searching the area between Brighton and Newhaven for their missing baby, who has not been seen by a doctor since his birth in January.

Marten, 35, and Gordon, 48, have been travelling around the United Kingdom by taxi since their car caught fire on the M61 in Bolton, Greater Manchester, on January 5.

It is unknown if their baby was born full-term or if he or she has any health issues.

Officers say the pair were apprehended in Stanmer Villas in Brighton on Monday night after a member of the public saw them shortly before 9.30 p.m.

The police previously assumed the couple was sleeping in a tent because they avoided being tracked by moving around frequently and covering their faces in CCTV images.

The couple travelled from Bolton to Liverpool, then to Harwich in Essex, east London, and finally Newhaven in Sussex, where they were spotted near the ferry terminal on January 8.

Marten, who comes from a wealthy aristocratic family, was a promising drama student when she met Gordon for the first time in 2016.

Since then, the couple has lived in isolation, and in September, when Marten was well into her pregnancy, they began moving around rental flats.

The 35-year-old mother may have given birth in the back of a car that was later discovered burned out in the Manchester area.

Concerns began to arise because neither Marten nor the baby had seen a doctor.

The mother, whose family once owned the £100 million Crichel House estate in Dorset and has royal Family connections, vanished on January 5.

Last week, Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford stated that approximately 50 officers were working on the case at any given time, and that over 630 hours of CCTV footage had been viewed.

Following previous appeals, the public had made over 350 calls to police with information.

A £10,000 reward was also offered for information leading to their safe return.
