Death toll from earthquake rises to more than 5,200

The earthquake that occurred in the area on Monday claimed the lives of at least 5,261 people in Turkey and Syria.

There have been more than 1,712 fatalities in Syria. More than 900 people have died in regions controlled by the opposition, according to Syria’s White Helmets. also known as Syria Civil Defense.

State news agency reports that 812 people have died in areas under government control.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Tuesday that 3,549 people had died in Turkey.

Figures from the Syrian official media, the White Helmets, and the Turkish government all indicate that more than 25,000 people have been hurt.
