Donald Trump was banned on social media platforms two years ago
The suspension of the Facebook and Instagram profiles of Donald Trump for more than two years has been lifted.
Following the rioting at the Capitol in 2021, Mr. Trump was prohibited from using social media.
The parent business of the platforms, Meta, claimed that it took action as a result of the then-president praising those who were “involved in violence at the Capitol.”
According to Meta, Mr. Trump may face another suspension for one month to two years if he violates the regulations once more.
Both websites continue to host posts in which he irrationally contests the outcome of the 2020 US presidential election.
The last of his posts received comments from supporters wishing him well on his return.
After the platforms’ Oversight Board criticized the open-ended punishment, Mr. Trump’s first suspension from the platforms was reduced to a two-year suspension.
He called the action “an insult” to the millions of people who supported him in the 2020 presidential election at the time.
Meta announced his return two weeks ago.
The company’s president of international affairs, Nick Clegg, asserted that the general public “should be able to hear what their politicians are saying.”
A study has determined that Mr. Trump’s accounts no longer pose a severe risk to the public’s safety, he added.
The former president declared his intention to seek office once more in 2024 last November. He has almost 23 million Instagram followers and 34 million Facebook fans.
