Police shot and killed a man on Tuesday afternoon in Omaha after he opened fire with a semiautomatic weapon inside a Target Corp store, according to authorities.
The suspect had an AR-15 rifle and thirteen filled rifle magazines, according to the investigation, the Omaha Police Department said in a statement. The suspect also fired additional shots inside the store.
According to the authorities, no casualties had been discovered at the store or had shown up at nearby hospitals. Instead, the responding cops shot the armed man, who was later declared dead by the Omaha Fire Department.
The police stated that the inquiry was underway.
Shoppers and employees at the retailer’s Omaha West location were reportedly evacuated without incident, and the company said it was coordinating with the Omaha Police Department.
“The store will remain closed temporarily, during which time we will provide our team members full compensation and access to on-site counseling for those who need it,” a spokesperson for the retailer said in an emailed statement.
