The victims of a Cardiff crash that claimed the lives of three people were stranded for over two days, according to detectives.

Authorities said that number plate recognition cameras and CCTV analysis were utilized to determine that the accident occurred on Saturday, March 4, at 02:03 GMT.

The victims weren’t discovered until 46 hours later, just after midnight on a Monday morning.

Following the collision near the A48 in Saint Mellons, Cardiff, Eve Smith, 21, Rafel Jeanne, 24, and Darcy Ross, 21, perished.

Shane Loughlin, 32, and Sophie Russon, 20 both continue to be in severe condition.

A sixth person, who had been in the vehicle with the other five, had been dropped off earlier and was now at home.

The three women, who are all from Newport, went to The Muffler club late on Friday in the Maesglas neighborhood of the city.

Together with the two males, who were both from Cardiff, they then travelled 58 kilometres (36 miles) to Trecco Bay Caravan Park in Porthcawl, Bridgend county.

At 19:34 GMT on Saturday, Gwent Police received the first report of a missing person. At 19:43 GMT and 21:32 GMT on the same day, Gwent Police received other reports of missing people.

At 17:37 GMT on Sunday, South Wales Police received a new missing person report.

The IOPC announced on Tuesday that it was looking into the acts of the Gwent Police and South Wales Police.

Police “didn’t appear to think it was worth investigating,” according to Ms. Russon’s mother Anna Certowicz, when the five persons were reported missing.

Everton Smith, Eve Smith’s father, claimed that his life had been irrevocably altered by his daughter’s passing.

The tragedy occurred after the five people’s white VW Tiguan off the road and went through some trees.

Examinations following the death are ongoing.
