Elderly man set on fire outside mosque in west London
Following the setting on fire of an 82-year-old man outside a mosque in west London, police have published a photograph of a man they want to talk with.
On the evening of February 27, the elderly man was attacked on Singapore Road in West Ealing as they were leaving the West London Islamic Center.
He then sprayed the victim in what is thought to be gasoline before lighting him on fire with a lighter.
The victim’s face and arms suffered severe burns, which required hospital treatment.
Det Sgt. Steven Constable of the Metropolitan Police stated that a thorough investigation into the “very disturbing occurrence” was being conducted.
“A key part of that is identifying the man in the image we have released,” he said. “If you recognise this man I would urge you to get in touch.”
He added: “Understandably, there is a great deal of local concern in the wake of this incident and local officers have been carrying out reassurance patrols daily at the mosque.”
The “extremely unsettling episode” was the subject of a thorough investigation, according to Det Sgt. Steven Constable of the Metropolitan Police.
