Many people joins sexual health clinic counter protest in Glasgow
At a Glasgow sexual health clinic, hundreds of people have joined competing demonstrations.
The Scottish Family Party activists initially congregated in front of the Sandyford clinic on Argyle Street.
The police then kept the two groups apart as a larger counter-demo with dancing and a sound system emerged.
Abortion and transgender health care are among the many services provided by Sandyford.
Richard Lucas, the leader of the Scottish Family Party, a former UKIP member, had earlier posted on social media that the party will perform a symbolic “bricking up” of the clinic’s entrance.
The LGBTQ+ and ally organisation Cabaret Against The Hate Speech welcomed people to participate in the counter demonstration, and encouraged them to bring instruments and megaphones if they so desired. The counter demonstration included live karaoke.
A plan that would create “safe access zones” around healthcare facilities that offer abortion services is being promoted by Scottish Greens MSP Gillian Mackay in the Scottish Parliament.
