After transporting a 21-year-old man from Lagos to the UK, a senior, affluent Nigerian politician, his wife, and a medical “middleman” were convicted guilty of a plan to trade in organs.

In the first such case under rules against modern slavery, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, 60, his wife Beatrice, 56, and Dr. Obinna Obeta, 50, were found guilty of planning to use the man for his kidney.

The Old Bailey was informed that the organ was for the couple’s 25-year-old daughter, Sonia.

The similar charge against her was dropped.

A street vendor from Lagos was the victim who was taken to the UK last year for an £80,000 private kidney transplant at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

According to the prosecution, he was promised possibilities in the UK and up to £7,000 in exchange for his assistance, and he only realized what was happening when he encountered medical professionals at the hospital.

It was claimed that the defendants attempted to persuade medical staff at the Royal Free by claiming to be Sonia’s cousin despite the fact that they were unrelated.

Sonia suffers from a crippling condition and continues to get weekly dialysis.

While giving a kidney is legal, doing so for financial or other material gain is against the law.

Dr. Peter Dupont, a consultant for the Royal Free, came to the conclusion that the donor was inappropriate after finding that he had received no counseling or advise regarding the risks of surgery and lacked funding for the necessary lifetime care.

Dr. Peter Dupont, a consultant for the Royal Free, came to the conclusion that the donor was unfit after finding that he had not received counseling or information about the hazards of surgery and lacked the finances to pay for the necessary lifetime care.

The Ekweremadus reportedly transferred their interest to Turkey and started looking for a new donor after that.

The young man fled London and camped out for many days before entering a police station in Staines, Surrey, crying and upset.

This prompted the start of an investigation.

Relaying his fears, he told police: “The doctor said I was too young but the man said if you do not do it here he would carry me back to Nigeria and do it there.”
