Scarlett Johansson says I was “trained” to take on challenge
Scarlett Johansson claimed that her previous management company “groomed” her into accepting “bombshell” roles.
The 38-year-old “Black Widow” actress remarked on Tuesday’s “Table for Two” podcast with Bruce Bozzi, “I kind of became, like, an ingénue.”
“Young girls like that are really objectified, and that’s just a fact, so I think whatever box they’re put into, it sort of sets you on this trajectory for how your life will go. Now, obviously, women really are able more now to choose their own path.”
Johansson claimed that in her late teens, she started to embrace womanhood and started playing with her own “desirability and sexuality,” albeit this didn’t necessarily help her escape the stereotype.
“I think because of that trajectory that I had been sort of launched towards, I really got stuck in this,” she said.
“I was kind of being groomed in a manner to be this what you call this bombshell type of actor,” the “Black Dahlia” star continued. I was playing the other woman and this object of desire when I suddenly realized that I was trapped and unable to escape.
Johansson claimed she immediately understood that picking assignments based mostly on her attractiveness has a limited shelf life.
“I think for that kind of bombshell [role] that burns bright and quick, and then you don’t have many opportunities beyond that, and I just felt like I was burning out so quickly,” the “Nanny Diaries” star added.
Johansson also disclosed that she had a “very terrible time” filming “Lost in Translation” with Bill Murray when she was just 17 years old.
It was challenging for me to understand the significant bond between our characters. She continued, “I fought with that for various reasons, and when I got out of it, it was like this strange fever dream.
