Haley Takes Early Lead in New Hampshire Primary Kickoff
In the quaint town of Dixville Notch, the symbolic starting point of the New Hampshire GOP primary, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley emerged as the initial frontrunner as all six voters cast their ballots in her favor.
The town, known for its midnight voting tradition dating back to 1960, set the stage for the highly anticipated primary contest.
Expressing gratitude for the unanimous support, Haley stated, “A great start to a great day in New Hampshire. Thank you Dixville Notch!” The results unfolded after both Haley and fellow Republican candidate Donald Trump made their final appeals to New Hampshire voters in the lead-up to the pivotal 2024 primary.
However, notable absence on the ballot was President Joe Biden, due to an internal party dispute over the primary’s date. Despite this, there is a state campaign urging voters to consider Biden as a write-in candidate.
The 22 delegates at stake in New Hampshire have become a focal point for both parties. After Trump’s significant victory in Iowa, he aims for another triumph in a state where Haley, his former UN Ambassador, has concentrated her efforts to thwart the ex-president’s momentum.
This year marks the first instance where both Democrats and Republicans head to the polls, though only one party will allocate delegates to presidential hopefuls in New Hampshire. Results from the broader New Hampshire primary are expected to trickle in after polls close at 7 pm ET, shaping the trajectory of the 2024 election season.
