KP govt. announces new school timing, summer vactation dates
With the continuing heatwaves throughout the country, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced the new timings for the schools and colleges as well as the revised dates for summer vacations.
According to the government’s announcement, schools will open at 7 am instead of 8 am. The students of the primary school will get off at 11 am while the middle and secondary schools will get off at 12 pm.
“School timings have been changed due to extreme heat,” the KP Education Department said in a statement.
Additionally, the summer vacation for the primary schools will be observed from June 1 to August 31, while the middle and secondary schools will get holidays from June 15 to August 31.
The Educational Department also revealed that the school in the cooler areas will observe the vacations from July 1 to August 31.
The announcement came after the Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar announced the revised holidays schedule in a tweet. He said that the schools In Punjab will observe summer vacation from May 25 to 31.
“Viewing parents’ opinion and intensity of the weather, we have decided to give the holidays from this week,” he said.
The government has adjusted school hours to 7am to 11:30am from Monday to Thursday, and 7am to 10:30am on Fridays.
Contrary to the provincial government’s decision to start summer break from June 1 to August 14, the All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association (APPSMA) has called for schools to remain open from 7am to 10am between June 1 and June 15.
Additionally, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has postponed the intermediate examinations by five days. Originally set for May 22, the exams are now rescheduled to begin on May 27.
