ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that the Pakistan Army is actively engaged in relief operations across flood-affected areas on the directives of the Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

During the briefing, DG ISPR Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif stated that so far, assistance has been provided to over 6,000 people, with Army Aviation also participating in relief activities.

According to him, medical battalions along with teams of doctors from Combined Military Hospital (CMH) have been dispatched to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where eight army units are currently engaged in relief efforts.

The DG ISPR further informed that nine medical camps have been set up to provide healthcare services to victims, 6,903 people have been rescued, and two battalions are conducting relief operations in Buner.

Federal Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, accompanied by DG ISPR and the Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), briefed the media at NDMA headquarters regarding the ongoing monsoon rains and flood situation.

He added that, on the directives of the Prime Minister, relief activities in the affected areas have been accelerated.

Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik, said that floods in the northern areas have been triggered by glacier melting. He added that heavy rains and floods have so far claimed 670 lives and left around 1,000 people injured.

He further stated that most of the missing persons’ bodies have been recovered, while cloudbursts in various regions also caused flooding. The Army Chief has directed all relevant institutions to work together in relief operations.
