Public holiday announced for January 1, 2026

Friday, January 2, 2026, will be a remote working day for federal employees.

The United Arab Emirates is preparing to welcome 2026 with celebrations and public holidays. The Federal Authority has officially announced that Thursday, January 1, will be a public holiday for both government and private sector employees, allowing people across the country to celebrate the New Year.

In addition, Friday, January 2, 2026, will be a remote working day for federal employees. However, staff whose duties require them to be physically present will continue working from their offices.

Preparations for New Year celebrations are underway across the UAE. Residents and visitors can expect impressive fireworks displays and advanced drone shows throughout the country.

In Ras Al Khaimah, a 15-minute fireworks show will take place along a 6-kilometer stretch of beach. Dubai will host major New Year’s Eve celebrations at popular locations such as Global Village, Atlantis The Palm, and Bluewaters Island, featuring fireworks, drone displays, live music, and beach parties.

Abu Dhabi will also host grand celebrations at the Sheikh Zayed Festival, including a 62-minute fireworks display and the world’s largest drone show, offering a spectacular experience for both residents and tourists.
