TUCSON (ARIZONA): A chilling new development has emerged in the high-profile disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, after a ransom note reportedly claimed she died following her abduction, deepening the mystery surrounding the case.
According to CNN and law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation, a second ransom note was received in February, days after an initial demand for money.
While the first note allegedly stated that Nancy Guthrie was alive and sought millions in Bitcoin for her release, the later message claimed she had died shortly after being kidnapped. It further suggested the abductors did not intend to kill her and included an apology to the family.
Authorities have not publicly confirmed the contents of the notes. However, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said the investigation remains “active and ongoing” in close coordination with the FBI, as investigators continue to assess evidence and follow leads.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen after being dropped off at her residence in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. She was reported missing the following day after failing to appear for a scheduled virtual church service.
Investigators later discovered blood near her front doorstep, raising concerns that she may have been forcibly taken.
The FBI also released surveillance footage showing a masked individual at her home on the night of her disappearance. Despite extensive searches across desert regions and continued investigative efforts, no arrests have been made and her whereabouts remain unknown.
The case has now stretched beyond 20 weeks, with search operations involving law enforcement teams and volunteers continuing across multiple areas, including regions near the Arizona–Mexico border following reported leads.
Earlier, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released an emotional video appeal, urging for their mother’s safe return and expressing willingness to meet ransom demands in hopes of resolving the case.
Authorities maintain that the investigation is still ongoing and active as they work to uncover what happened in one of the most closely followed abduction cases in recent months.
