Karachi witnessed a wave of dangerous celebratory gunfire during New Year’s Eve festivities, leaving at least 25 people injured, including women and children, who were immediately rushed to hospitals for urgent treatment.

Police reported that the reckless firing occurred in multiple areas, including Korangi, Golimar, Five Star, and New Sabzi Mandi, putting countless lives at risk.

Additionally, four individuals were wounded in Hyderabad, and two in Nawabshah, highlighting the widespread nature of the violence.

Authorities launched an immediate crackdown, apprehending 41 suspects linked to the incidents. The arrestees have been handed over to respective police stations for formal legal proceedings. Arrests were recorded as follows:

  • District Central Police: 19 suspects
  • District City Police: 3 suspects
  • Malir Police: 5 suspects
  • District East Police: 7 suspects
  • Korangi Police: 2 suspects
  • West Police: 3 suspects
  • Kemari District Police: 2 suspects

The Sindh Home Department had already enforced a ban on the display of weapons and celebratory firing in Karachi during New Year festivities.

Police intensified monitoring by deploying drone cameras across Liaquatabad, Sharifabad, Azizabad, Nazimabad, and other high-risk areas.

More than 16 police stations were equipped with drones to capture footage of violators, ensuring swift action and evidence collection for prosecution.

These decisive measures aim to safeguard citizens and uphold public order during the New Year celebrations. Authorities have reiterated the importance of celebrating responsibly to prevent accidents, injuries, and chaos in the city.
