At least two people have been killed and three others critically injured in a mass shooting at a high school ice hockey game in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The incident occurred at the Dennis M Lynch Arena during a match, prompting chaos and panic among spectators and players.
According to authorities, the suspected gunman died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after opening fire. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves confirmed during a news conference that the first emergency call was received at 2:28 PM local time.
Eyewitness reports a rapid burst of about 13 gunshots over six seconds, followed by an additional shot approximately 11 seconds later from an area outside the camera’s view. The barrage of gunfire caused spectators and athletes to drop to the floor, seek shelter, and evacuate the arena.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident and working to piece together the sequence of events leading up to the attack.
