Man asks court to allow usage of ‘chars’

A citizen of Karachi presented a bizarre case before Sindh high court. He appealed to the court to allow usage of hashish (chars). 

The petitioner aimed to seek approval to permit carrying and usage of 10 grams of hashish (chars).

However, Sindh High Court dismissed the petition. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar expressed anger at petitioner Ghulam Asghar Saeein while dismissing the plea.

“What kind of a petition have you brought? Asked Justice Mazhar. “Do you want everyone to start smoking chars?”

The petitioner responded it, saying he was a “poor man” and had filed the petition in “public interest”.

He said before the court, “Smoking hash is allowed in multiple countries.”

But Justice Mazhar argued, “If you want to smoke hash then go to those countries, it is not allowed here.” He also asked why such petitions are brought to court.

But the petitioner justified his appeal, “It will increase the country’s income and revenue.”

“[We] do not want such a revenue, there are legitimate ways to increase income,” responded the judge and dismissed the plea.
