UAE: Govt Employees Ordered Work From Home Amid Increase In Cases

Sharjah Department of Human Resources announced has given ordered to government employees to work from home due to increasing cases of coronavirus.

According to the Khaleej Times, the department has issued a circular to all government departments, that allows them to take any or all of the decisions listed.

The report said that government departments can decide on the percentage of people who can work from home. Employees that have to be present physically at the workplace will report to the office.

It added that the government departments have to ensure the “highest levels of Covid safety” for employees. Each employee must be seated at least two metres apart.

If remote working is not possible, department heads have to introduce shift systems in such a way that there is only 50 per cent of the total number of employees at any given time.

The Department of Human Resources also called on employees to ensure that they follow all Covid safety measures like wearing masks and ensuring social distancing.

Dr Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Member of the Sharjah Executive Council and Chairman of the Department of Human Resources urged everyone to follow all Covid safety measures.

Earlier, the capital of UAE, Abu Dhabi, imposed new restriction imposed on Sunday to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Abu Dhabi’s media office said in a statement that the new restrictions would take effect immediately under them, gatherings and celebrations in the city of Abu Dhabi are strictly prohibited, movie theatres will remain closed. Only ten people will be allowed to attend weddings and family gatherings.

According to a media office circular, a maximum of 20 people will now be allowed to attend the funeral of a deceased.

Only 40% of their total capacity will be allowed in shopping malls. Up to 60% will be allowed in restaurants, cafes, hotels and government beaches and parks.

The circular further said that the capacity of taxis is being limited to 45% and that of buses to 75%. It will be prohibited to carry more passengers.

The government of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi on Saturday made it mandatory for government employees to take the COVID-19 test every week and instructed only 30% of employees to be present in the offices.

Abu Dhabi’s media office reported in a tweet on Saturday that “the Department of Government Support has approved a reduction in attendance at government and parastatals and now only 30% of employees will be in office.” The decision is aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus in the emirate, enforcing precautions and protecting the health of employees and their families.

The number of daily cases of the coronavirus has been on the rise in the UAE since December, with more than 3,000 cases of COVId-19 being registered daily. The vaccination campaign is also in full swing. And so far more than three million people have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
