A Chinese national was injured in a firing incident in Karachi on Wednesday, according to police officials.

DIG South Zone Karachi Javed Akbar Riaz said that the incident took place under Gulbai Bridge in the site area.

He said unidentified armed men on a motorcycle wearing face masks opened fire on two Chinese nationals accompanying the driver in the vehicle, injuring one Chinese national.

The injured Chinese national was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment, where his condition is said to be out of danger.

According to Javed Akbar Riaz, the two Chinese nationals work in a factory in Sher Shah. In the morning, they left the residence in the Defense Housing Authority to go to the factory with a local driver and the incident took place on the way.

The DIG South zone said that the movement of foreigners is usually reported to the police, but the police had no information about the two.

On the other hand, SSP Kemari Fida Januri said that the firing did not take place under the Gulbai Bridge but at some other place on the way and after the firing, the driver drove the vehicle under the Gulbai Bridge.

It should be noted that a large number of Chinese nationals are residing in Pakistan to work on development projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and they have been attacked several times in Pakistan before.

A bus carrying Chinese workers working on the Dasu Hydropower Project in Kohistan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, this month killed 12 people, including nine Chinese nationals.

The Pakistani Foreign Office initially called it an accident. However, the Chinese embassy in a statement called the incident an explosion.

Similarly, in April this year, a suicide bomber blew himself up in the parking lot of a private hotel in Quetta when the Chinese ambassador was inside the hotel, killing five people and injuring several others.
