There has been a complaint registered against Indian director Anurag Kashyap’s Netflix collection; Ghost Stories.

This is one of the very first examples of wrong which was registered after Information Technology Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code was put together by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in 2021.

According to reports, objection has been raised against a scene from the short film in which actress Sobhita Dhulipala is seen eating a fetus after suffering a miscarriage. The complaint reads, “The scene is not required for the story, and if the creators wished to add such a scene, there should have been a trigger warning for women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriages.”

As stated by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, a complaint must be lodged within a day and should be looked into at the earliest.

As per the report, Netflix India spokesperson said, “As this was a partner-managed production [RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment], we reached out to the production company to share the complaint.”

Before the digital news media Rules were imposed, the industry wasn’t quite regulated. After the new laws were introduced, some thought that it was an effort done in order to moderate as well as put restrictions on digital creators. “So it has started… A complaint came to Netflix on Ghost Stories. This is the end,” Anurag wrote earlier in his Instagram Story.

The Netflix Ghost Stories collection was released on New Year’s in 2020, and it is a follow-up to Lust Stories produced in 2018. Directors Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Karan Johar also contributed their shots to be featured in Ghost Stories.
