China has provided more than 2.2 billion doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to over 120 countries and international organisations as of Wednesday, the majority of which are developing countries, according to new official data.

China was the first country to support waivers of intellectual property rights for Covid-19 vaccines and to collaborate with other developing countries on vaccine production. China has so far collaborated on vaccine production with 13 countries and signed cooperation agreements with eight others.

Since the onset of Covid-19, China has undertaken the largest and most comprehensive global emergency humanitarian response in the People’s Republic of China’s history.

According to data obtained by Xinhua on Wednesday, China had offered anti-Covid supplies to 153 nations and 15 international organisations by early May, including 4.6 billion protective gowns and more than 430 billion face masks.

In addition, China has dispatched 37 medical expert teams to 34 countries and shared Covid-19 prevention and control knowledge with over 180 countries and international organisations.
