Céline Dion’s Stiff-Person Syndrome Diagnosis Shows Her Resilience

The “Power of Love” singer, 54, posted an emotional video on Instagram.

“It kills me to inform you that I won’t be ready to begin my tour in Europe in February,” Dion said in the post’s description.

“Recently, I’ve been diagnosed with a rare neurological illness called stiff-person syndrome,” she stated in her video. “While we’re still learning about it, we now know that this has been causing all of my spasms.”

The neurological disease with autoimmune features can include symptoms like “hyper-rigidity, debilitating pain, chronic anxiety,” and “violent muscle spasms that can dislocate joints and break bones,” according to the Stiff Person Syndrome Foundation.

“Unfortunately, these spasms impair every area of my everyday life,” Dion said. “They make it difficult for me to walk and hinder my ability to sing.”

Dion said she had “a terrific team of physicians helping me get healthy” and “my darling children giving me hope.”

Dion’s spring 2023 gigs have been moved to 2024, while eight of her summer 2023 shows have been cancelled.
