In the Indian state of Karnataka, a New Year’s celebration took a terrible turn when the host suffered a heart attack after mistakenly shooting one of the guests to death.

Manjunath Olekar, 67, was getting ready to shoot off some celebratory shots at the party on Saturday at his house in Shivamogga city.

However, the shot from the rifle went off-target, striking Vinay U, 34, who was standing next to him.

An investigation into the incident has been opened by the police.

In many parts of India, it is customary to fire off shots into the air to commemorate weddings and other important occasions. Unfortunately, this practise frequently results in unintended fatalities and injuries.

According to police officials, Olekar, who had a licenced gun, allegedly used it to celebrate the start of the new year in years past as well.

GK During his party on Saturday, Olekar was loading the gun when he “accidentally squeezed the trigger,” shooting Vinay, a friend of his son, according to Mithun Kumar, Shivamogga’s police superintendent.

“There are just a few situations in which a firearm may be utilised. To rejoice without shooting into the air, “a police officer stated.

Vinay was taken to the hospital right away following the event, but he passed away on Sunday night.

Olekar collapsed as a result of the encounter, according to Mr. Kumar.

People in Shivamogga were so astonished by the odd situation that even individuals who had never met the businessman visited his home to express their condolences.

A city citizen remarked, “I just felt sorry, so I went to pay my homage.”
