LAHORE: The forensic report of the mobile phone of suspect Naveed Mehar, who was involved in the attack on PTI Chairman Imran Khan in Wazirabad, has been released.

According to the report, the forensic team was unable to recover deleted data from the mobile phone of the prime suspect. The audio messages and videos obtained are being inspected by the investigation team.

The investigation team recovered two SIMs of different cellular companies from the suspect’s mobile phone. Authorities claim one foreign-based and two local phone numbers might help give a direction to the probe.

The forensic team obtained 138 contact numbers and data of 1,869 calls, 337 SMS, while 449 audio messages and 212 videos were also found.

The authorities have made a DVD of all audio and video recordings retrieved from Naveed’s phone and handed it over to JIT probing the attack.

A day earlier, Mian Dawood, the lawyer of the prime suspect, had claimed that the incident was ‘planted’ by the PTI to revive the long march.

“Wazirabad incident was staged and has nothing to do with reality,” Dawood alleged while addressing a press conference in Lahore.

The lawyer claimed the JIT did not investigate the matter on merit and denied accepting its report. He said the statements of the policemen were also neglected by the investigation team.

He claimed the JIT was made Imran Khan’s instructions and was not considering substantial evidence a part of the investigation. He alleged the JIT conspired to spoil the case and is attempting to tamper with the details in the police diary.

Dawood said there was no need to extend the accused’s remand. He said the authorities are forcing the accused to make a confessional statement by making his mother sit in front of him in cold weather

Imran Khan and PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry have claimed the investigation had proven that three assailants were involved in the assassination attempt the PTI chairman

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah categorically rejected the claims, insisting that only one shooter Naveed was involved in the attempted assassination.
